APLU's CICEP Group Readying Economic Impact Framework

University economic engagement is most certainly helping institutions respond to new markets and playing a role in establishing new value networks, said Jim Woodell, director of innovation and technology policy at APLU, in A Public Voice article discussing the Economic Impact Framework that the Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness, and Economic Prosperity (CICEP) plan to unveil this fall.

Woodell says since the beginning, APLU institutions have made significant contributions to their local and state economies but stakeholders don't always recognize these contributions.
Our institutions are increasingly asked to demonstrate their economic value and relevance. Among those APLU members participating in CICEP, a frequent discussion centers on the idea that we simply do not do a good enough job telling our story. We are so focused on carrying out the learning, discovery, and engagement missions of our institutions that we do not take the time to frame our contributions in terms of the economy.
